I think it is worth noting that the Japanese government was warned that the US had developed a superweapon, capable of destroying an entire city prior to its use. They were warned again prior to the second bomb. There was no such warning prior to the attack on Pearl Harbor or the invasion of the Philippines. Thirty five percent of US POWs died while in captivity. The Japanese killed an estimated 150,000 civilians in Nanking alone. It was estimated that should the US invade the mainland of Japan that the would be as many as one million US casualties. The Japanese were not party to the Geneva Convention and their resulting brutality is well known.

I once visited Sugamo Ginza, which is famous for senior people's shopping street since I am 77 years old now. It was a pretty busy street by mainly old and very old people. I live in Silicon Valley for last 42 years. Now I am thinking to move back to my home country, Japan. My wife and I have been very healthy mainly because we have resisted American way of eating habit. If we have back to Japan, my wife can rest from preparing Japanese food every day and visiting around famous Japanese restaurants.
